Prakash Raj Backs Release of Abir Gulaal, Opposes Film Bans: “Let the Audience Decide”

Entertainment News

Delhi | Veteran actor Prakash Raj has spoken out in support of the Fawad Khan and Vaani Kapoor-starrer Abir Gulaal, asserting that the audience should have the freedom to choose what they watch. The film, initially scheduled for release on May 9, has been caught in controversy following the April terror attack in Pahalgam, which led to calls for its ban. Government sources indicated the movie may not be released in India.

In an interview with The Lallantop, Prakash Raj stated, “I’m not for any banning of films, whether it’s right-wing or propaganda. Let people decide. Unless it’s pornography or about child abuse, why should any film be banned?”

He criticized the growing intolerance in society, referencing past controversies involving Bollywood stars. “Today, anybody can get hurt. ‘I’ll cut Deepika Padukone’s nose! I’ll behead her!’ What does that achieve? Shah Rukh Khan… just because of a colour? Besharam Rang… they can make a hue and cry about anything, and the people in power let it happen to create fear,” he said.

Prakash was alluding to previous incidents such as the backlash against Padmaavat and Pathaan, where actors faced threats and films drew ire over costumes and content. He stressed the importance of creative freedom and the public’s right to make their own choices.
